Picture this. It's December, there's a family photo session on the calendar, and your skin looks flat and a little tired every time you catch your reflection. You're not imagining it. Winter is hard on skin. The air is dry, the heat is running, and whatever protection you had in July has worn off.
Here's the good news: winter is a great time for a peel. There's less direct sun, which means less chance of new pigment forming while your skin settles. And you're not racing to finish before a trip.
If dark spots or melasma are what bother you most, this is the peel I reach for. Most peels work by taking off the top layer of skin. This one is oil-based and goes after the pigment itself. Its active ingredient, 4-Butylresorcinol, slows down the enzyme your skin uses to make melanin, the stuff that darkens spots.
Why I like it: there's no downtime. You can head back to your day right after. Pigment changes slowly, so it's done as a series, usually one to two weeks apart. Daily sunscreen is part of the deal, because sun is the fastest way to bring spots back.
For breakouts, the peel I use most is the Clear Synergy Peel 1. It's a non-TCA peel, so it doesn't use trichloroacetic acid, the stronger acid most people picture when they hear the word peel. Its acids come as a blend called HydroxyMatrix, made of alpha and beta hydroxy acids. Mandelic acid is gentle on the surface. Glycolic acid works quickly. Lactic acid exfoliates and also helps skin stay hydrated. Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, so it can get into pores and help clear buildup. Glycerin holds moisture, which keeps things comfortable while it works.
Why I like it: all of that is why it helps prep skin for extractions and keeps congestion from building back. It usually runs every two weeks while breakouts are active, as part of your Clear Skin Journey. Most people have little to no downtime. Some dryness or light flaking can show up for a few days, and that's normal.
Acne can often be cleared without harsh medication, especially when the peel works alongside your home care. Visits are every four to six weeks with check-ins in between, so the plan keeps moving even when your calendar doesn't slow down.
Not every appointment has to be a plan. Sometimes you just want your skin to look fresh before a holiday party. I also have a few gentle peels with no downtime for exactly that. They're light enough to fit into a busy week, and they leave your skin looking smoother and more luminous without a recovery period.
Start with your main concern. Pigment points to the Melapro. Breakouts point to the Clear Synergy. If you just want a nice glow before the holidays, one of the gentle peels is the easiest place to begin. Send me a note at oregonglowcs@gmail.com, or book online, and we'll figure it out together.
